What Causes Spike In BP Level?

I am a 38 yr old female that blood pressure normally runs around 125/80. I just was at Walgreens & took my BP at one of those machines. It said my bp was 161/87... I have never had a reading like that. I have had a headache all day too. Should I be worried?

Hi welcome to hcm
I understand your query and concern.
Sudden rise in blood pressure should be monitored thoroughly, shouldn't be neglected. You should take Depin 5 mg sublingually immediately to reduce your blood pressure thereby preventing ischemic changes in the brain.Monitor your blood pressure again after one hour if still its high go to emr without fail.If blood pressure monitored thrice shows value >140/90 should be considered to have hypertension and to be started on Anti hypertensive medications. Also get an ECG,2 D Echo, lipid profile as a part of routine heart checkup.Avoid high salt intake.Fruits like apple ,pomegranate are helpful.Avoid smoking, alcohol and fatty foods.Exercise regularly.Consult your cardiologist for expert management.
Post your further queries if any,
Thank you.
