What Causes Speech Delay In 2 And 1/2 Year Old Child?

Robbie is a 2 1/2 year old little boy, born with Downs Syndrome. He has submucus cleft palate. He is very delayed in speech, saying just the "a" sound and "d" sounds. I was wondering 2 things... is the speech delay due to this or DS, and does his constant runny nose have anything to do with this?

Hi...Downs syndrome and cleft palate both could be the reason for his speech delay. Moreover hearing loss needs to be ruled out as first and fore most thing.
I suggest you do a complete audiological evaluation and get in touch with a speech therapist.
Submucus cleft palate needs to be corrected too.
