HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Acute sore throats are most commonly related to an acute viral or bacterial infection.
Viral infections are more common than bacterial infections.

It is possible since the pain is severe however that it may be related to a bacterial infection and antibiotics may be needed.
It would be best to see your doctor for an assessment which may include physical examination and a swab.

I hope this helps
