What Causes Soreness On The Knees?

I was removing carpet and the staples and I kneeled on one and one stuck right into my knee over my knee cap. I pulled it out right away, but now my knee is very sore when I bend it and going up or down stairs. it happened about 11 hours ago. do i need to see a doctor? my last tdap was in 2010

Some advices that I can give to you are :
-Rest your knee.
-Ice your knee to ease pain and swelling.
-Wrap your knee.
-Elevate your leg on a pillow when you're sitting or lying down.
-Take NSAIDs, like ibuprofen or naproxen.
-Do stretching and strengthening exercises,especially for your quadriceps muscles.
If the soreness continue see a doctor.
