What Causes Sore Throat?

I have had a killer sore throat for two days with a 99.0 temp to no temp at all. Is it a virus or should I check it out further? I teach second graders so I figure it could be anything! :-) It seems to be all be in my throat. I am horse or have no voice. I am taking Sulfamethoxazole for a bronchiectasis flare up.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Whats your age?
Do you smoke?
Do you have a normal blood sugar level?

Sore throat with a hoarse voice/no voice can be due to various cause like
Infection of the throat(pharynx/tonsils),
Vocal cord pathology(singer's nodules/any vocal cord growth)
Infection of the larynx etc.

I would like you to visit an ENT specialist for proper evaluation and clinical examination.

Meanwhile, you can have a course of antibiotics like azithromycin,
ibuprofen for fever,
serratiopeptidase for inflammation,
and a betadine gargle.

Gargling with warm saline water would also benefit you.
Absolute voice rest is advised at least for a period of 15-20 days.
Take care
