Hello,
Causes can include irritants, dehydration, allergic reactions and infections. This could be a side effect of medications or a systematic disease. Comsider any recent change in products used or consumed. First, make sure you are well hydrated and do not have vitamin deficiencies. Look for habits such as mouth breathing and snoring that need to be addressed. Take some antiinflammitory medication such as Advil or Tylenol. An antihistamine such as Benidryl may offer relief as well. Avoid irritants such as smoking, alcohol, acidic and spicy foods. Normal anatomy can become inflamed and these changes may offer relief with no greater concern. the circumvalet papillae located on the rear of your tongue may be the large bumps that you are aware of.
Should your conditions become worse or not improve, see your dentist or physician for a clinical exam and diagnostic tests. Antibiotics may be required for conditions such as strep throat or an oral yeast infection. A salivary gland disorder, respiratory or sinus infection may be diagnosed.
