What Causes Sore Throat, Cold Chills, Blistered Tongue And Swollen Gums?

I have had cold chills off and on for 2 and a half days. Yesterday I had a slight soar throat and a sensitive tooth which made it painful to wear my partial plate. This morning my tongue is blistered, and my gums are all swollen and red. My throat is still slightly soar, and I am unable to eat anything that needs chewing. The chills still come and go.

Hi..
Can understand your concern..

As per your complain and explanation of symptoms it seems that you are suffering from HERPETIC GINGIVO-STOMATITIS which is characterized by inflammation of different mucous membranes of the mouth along with formation of blisters and swelling and inflammation of gums along with chills or mild to moderate fever..

If you have a clasp from your partial plate of denture which is extending to the tooth which is sensitive then there are chances that due to continuous abrasion by the clasp the tooth is loosing its enamel and dentine layer and is thinning the tooth layer and as it gets near the nerve there is sensitivity..

I would suggest you to consult a physician and get evaluated and in case of herpes symptomatic treatment is to be done as antiviral medicines can not treat the infection and can only prevent outbreaks..

In order to prevent outbreaks Antiviral oral and topical therapy over the blisters like Acyclovir can help..

To reduce inflammation steroids has to be taken..

Salt water rinses can be relieving..

In case of pain anti-inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen can be taken..

Take a soft and cool diet..

Avoid spicy,hot,sour and hard foods..

Application of numbing gels on the painful areas but with precaution not to bite over tongue or cheek if applied as it will cause loss of sensation in the area applied..

For sensitive tooth consult a dentist and get an xray done and treatment will be planned as per the finding like to do root canal treatment or filling..

Hope this information helps..
