What Causes Sore Throat And Hoarseness In Voice?

Hello, I am here because I have been having a problem that has been worrying me for some time. I am a 21 year old female, do not smoke, drink, very active, never had any health problems. For over 4 months I have been experiencing a sore throat on the right side only. I am not experiencing difficulties when swallowing but I am experiencing hoarsness in my voice that is fixed by clearing my throat a View times. I do have enlarged lymph nodes on the right side but they're not extremely large, just a little larger than normal. I was worried the symptoms sound too much like throat cancer. I decided to get a CBC and all came back normal. I also got a series of other blood test including iron, etc done but all came back normal. Not sure what to do next except try to get into see an ENT. Do you think this is somethinh to be concerned about? I've also tried a series of antibiotics which did help for about 5 days. After that the sore throat immediately came back.

Hello,
Thanks for trusting Healthcaremagic!
I have gone through your query and I can understand your concerns.
First of all I can assure you that nothing to worry regarding your condition and you are most probably having some minor infection in your throat.
All the symptoms you have mentioned suggest possibility of throat inflammation(pharyngitis) caused by bacterial/viral infection.
The swollen lymph node indicates infection in nearby area most often from throat, look for dental caries which might be a cause. And no need to think about rarest of the rarest causes like cancer.(you are too young to develop a throat cancer!!)
You can do the following as an initial line of management after consulting a general practitioner:
1.Start a short course of antibiotics like "amoxicillin" for five to seven days.
2.If you have pain you can take simple analgesics like "paracetamol" or "ibuprofen".
3.You can take antihistamines like "cetrezine" for symptomatic relief.
4. Do warm saline gargles or gargling with a numbing mouth wash.
If symptoms persist despite all these consult an ENT physician and get a throat swab done to find out exact pathogen causing the disease.

Hope this information helps.
Wishing you good health.

Regards.
