What Causes Sore Throat And Earache?

My dad is in his upper 30 s and has a sore throat and ear pain just on one side. He went into a walk in clinic and they said the pain is due to swollen lymph nodes and inflammation of the jaw, but didn t know why his lymph nodes were swollen. We are worried it could possibly be throat cancer because someone we know was just diagnosed with that. What do you think?

Don't stretch it like a chewing gum. It's just an infection and your physician is absolutely right.

Has he given any antibiotics? If not then start Augmentin 625 mg or Azithromycin 250 mg or 500 mg depending on his weight. Give him warm saline water with possibly, soluble Aspirin one tab dissolved in one glass to do gargles 4-5 times a day. Also give him Paracetamol 500 mg 3-4 times a day.

There is slight paranoia about giving antibiotics straightaway in infections and rightly so in its own accord for some very well defined reasons. But in this case his infection is reaching his inner ear and he does need them .

Hope this helped.
