What Causes Sore Throat Along With Pus Pockets And Redness On Tongue?

I have had an awful sore throat for 4 days. I had trouble swallowing, including fluids. But today, as the pain strengthened and moved to the side/back of my tongue, I see white puss pockets (look like big zits) and a lot of redness. I actually have felt better today which is why I am so concerned. I had my tonsils removed in 1965. I am 55 years old. Do I need to seek treatment or gargle with warm salty water?

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain it seems to be severe throat infection or Pharyngitis leading to formation of pus pockets, inflammation leading to redness and pain and inflammation at the back of tongue leading to GLOSSITIS due to close proximity of back of tongue with throat..
I would suggest you to do warm saline gargles but you also need Medication like a course of antibiotics like Azithromycin, Augmentin etc..
Anti inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen should be taken..
You can also gargle with a numbing mouthwash containing Lignocaine to relieve pain in tongue and throat..
Do steam inhalation..
Such throat lozenges..
Avoid spicy and chilled foods..
In case of no resolution in a week consult an Otolaryngologist and get evaluated..
