What Causes Sore And Tender Toe Nails?

My toenails are noticeably red and streaked in color at the edges of all my toenails. They are also sore at the ends as if I had worn too small of shoes (which I haven t) I have been working out (aerobics) for the past 3 weeks everyday. i am female, 66 and been diagnosed with diabetes 5 years ago. What might be causing the red discoloration?

Hi.
As per your case history you are having paronychia, my treatment advice is -
1. Don't squeeze the nail as it may worsen the condition.
2. Apply a mild antibiotic cream like fusiderm cream twice daily on it.
3. Take a NSAID like ibuprofen for pain and swelling.
4. Other treatment options are oral antibiotics like levofloxacin, cefadroxil and azithromycin taken only after consulting a dermatologist.
