What Causes Shortness Of Breath With BP Level Of 169/80?

I was doing a little bit of work (not hard labor) I went and took my BP and it is 169/80 and I was short of breath, which I seem to be most of the time now. No I am not on BP medicines at the time. However I did over 6 yrs ago. What is going on with me? I am a female 56 1/2 yrs old, weigh 160, have had back surgery close to 6 yrs ago. My back is good now, no problems there. Sciatic nerve is still a problem for me though. But I am pretty healthy over all. I do not take any medications other than a generic form of Allegra D 24 hr form. I take Vit D 1000 mg and a calcium pill daily also Omega3 a day.

Hi,welcome to HCM,
Acute development of shortness of breath and elevated blood pressure can be due to cardiac decompensation.Restoration of normal blood pressure with the help of antihypertensive medications can help to lower the blood pressure with correction of shortness of breath.diuretics like frusemide can help to divert fluid from lungs .i strongly recommend you to reduce the dose of vitamin D and calcium can prevent increase in blood pressure.consult your cardiologist for further queries.
thank you.
