What Causes Shortness Of Breath When Suffering From Mitral Valve Regurgitation?
Had chemo for breast cancer in 2006, heart started skipping beats soon after. Now after all this time I had an echo cardio, and they found I have mild to moderate mitrol valve regurgitation. I am now 54. Short of breath sometimes. Can I figure this is a result of the chemo?
Hi welcome to HCM. Certain chemotherapeutic regimes are associated with adverse effects on the heart muscle. The mitral regurgitation can cause blood flow in the reverse direction into the left atrium which thereby transmits this to the lungs thereby causing shortness of breath.I strongly advise you to restrict the intake of salt to less than 6 gm/day to avoid fluid overload.Diuretics can also be indicated in your case to prevent fluid overload.Definitive management would be mitral valve repair.Consult your cardiologist for further queries. Thank you.
