What Causes Shortness Of Breath And Pressure In The Chest?

I am a 57 year old female who fractured my foot in three places a month ago. I have been in a boot and using a knee stroller for the entire time. In the past three days I have developed shortness of breath, mild heavy chest feeling and lose my breath and hyperventilate with minor physical activity. I was advised by a co-worker to be aware of DVT. Do these symptoms add up to that concern?

Hello,
I understand and appreciate your question.

Brief Answer: Most likely may have happened a pulmonary embolism.

Detailed Answer:
Because a pulmonary embolism affects the lungs, the symptoms are usually lung and breathing related. They include: shortness of breath, mild heavy chest feeling, and hyperventilate with minor physical activity.
A pulmonary embolism usually happens when a blood clot called a deep vein thrombosis (DVT), often in your leg, travels to your lungs and blocks a blood vessel.
The bone fractures of the leg are a major risk to the development of DVT, and to lead to a pulmonary embolism.
This can happen if a vein becomes damaged or if the blood flow within a vein slows down or stops.
When you have stopped moving, blood has flows more slowly to your deep veins, which may have led to a clot. You are more likely to have a clot between 2 and 10 days after your trauma.
A blood clot in the lungs can be very dangerous if not treated quickly.
You and your doctor need to understand what may have caused these complaints, so you can take steps to avoid getting clots.
