What Causes Sharp Shoulder Pain Over Sneezing?

I get a sharp pain in my left shoulder on the front side when I sneeze. the pain is there much of the time but it lessens if I hold my shoulders in the right position, almost straight back as if practicing good posture. but this does not help when going to sleep on my back. I also cant sleep on the left side as I will have sharp pains in that shoulder after a rather short time. any ideas?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Welcome
Sharp left shoulder pain most likely could be due to cervical degenerative disc disease with radiculopathy
For that you need to consult orthopedic surgeon and get x ray or MRI done if required.
Usually the treatment goes in following lines: rest, lifestyle modifications (namely- avoiding pillow while sleeping, following a healthy diet plan, maintaining suitable posture while working on computer/driving, avoiding any activity that strikes neck discomfort), medications (that your physician prescribes) and most important physiotherapy ( in form of neck exercises, cervical traction if required along with local ultrasonics).
I do hope that you have found something helpful .
Take care
