Thank you for your query.
Would you please clarify a few things for me?
1) is the area of injury inflamed (red), warm, swollen?
2) are you able to walk normally?
3) does it hurt only when you weigh on your knee or even when you completely flex your knee?
I would like to rule out
prepatellar bursitis and
patellar injury (
fracture)
I recommend and X-ray and physical exam to check for these.
Anti inflammatory topical preparations and medications, ice packs, , rest and leg elevation relieve most injuries in a couple of weeks.
Local bone swelling ( site of impact) may take longer (about a month) to heal .
massage gently with medicine, in circular motion and apply ice packs after 1 hour. thrice a day.
If a patellar fracture or bursitis is involved, further treatment is required. This may require surgery, cast,
physiotherapy, aspiration or any collected.
fluid.
With appropriate treatment & physiotherapy, prognosis is excellent.
Please see your doctor (orthopedician) if the above measures don't help or pain remains constant or worsens.
Hope i've answered your query. Please let me know if this has been helpful.
Wish you good health and any further queries are most welcome
