What Causes Sharp Pain In The Middle Of The Stomach?

Hi Doc, I ve got a 15 year-old male who was suddenly awakened by sharp stabbing pains in the middle of his stomach (behind his belly botton). He says he has no exams today or projects due. Last BM was yesterday afternoon and it felt normal. He had instant rolls (3) for dinner about 8 hours ago, a PBJ sandwich around 11 hours ago, and spicy chicken sandwich, fries and a banana around 14 hours ago. He felt fine until being awakened by the pain four hours ago. No fever.

Your symptoms are nonspecific, but these may be suggestive of gastritis, GERD or hiatal hernia so you should do gastroscopy to evaluate it more accurately. This is caused by irritation of stomach mucosa by certain food or medications, stress and smoking. You need to avoid fried food, carbonated drinks, coffee, alcohol and spicy food. You should eat more milk products, vegetables and boiled food. Also, certain antiacid medications may be required by diagnosis should be established first.
