What Causes Severe Vomiting With Blood?

Just last week while on vacation in the US I got sick. Three times I had to vomit, and all three times, after vomiting up the food that I had in my stomach, blood would follow. This has happened many times before as well. Most often when I have heartburn, as I suffer from severe Acid Reflux disease. What could be the cause of my violent vomiting sessions, and do I need to seek help over this?
