What Causes Severe Vomiting In A Diabetic Person After High Fever?
dear sir,My uncle in Ajmer had fever and he could not overcome it. As he s a diabetic, he s admitted in Vaishali Hospital Ajmer and Dr.Arora is looking after him.The problem is that there is no fever now and the blood sugar level is also in control but he s having excessive vomiting due to which he s feeling dizziness. As soon as there s an intake of food,he vomits. The doctor says he s having a swelling in lungs and initially they were treating for malaria and then typhoid and now they say they are unable to figure out any disease...please help and suggest.
Thank you for your query. I can understand your concerns. Frequent vomiting in a diabetic patient whose blood sugar is under control is not due to any acute complication of diabetes like diabetic ketoacidosis. Long-standing type 1 and 2 DM may affect the motility and function of gastrointestinal (GI) tract. The most prominent GI symptoms are delayed gastric emptying (gastroparesis). Gastroparesis may present with symptoms of anorexia, nausea, vomiting, early satiety, and abdominal bloating. However you mentioned he was under treatment for malaria and typhoid empirically.Since these are not established finally, the other causes of vomiting with fever have to be explored. Drug induced gastritis is also a possibility.Liver function test need to be done to rule out any hepatitis which may be causing frequent vomiting.
