What Causes Severe Vomiting And Abdominal Pain?

My 13 year old son has had midline abdominal pain and vomiting for 5 weeks. He has lost 6 to 8 pounds and can t keep much food or liquid down. He has had abdominal CT with contrast which was normal, endoscopy was normal, routine blood tests normal, stool culture, etc normal. Brain MRI today revealed what looked like a Pineal gland tumor according to Radiologist. Any ideas ?

Hi,
Welcome to HCM.

Your son has symptoms of vomiting and abdominal pain due to Pineal Gland tumor on MRI scan.

I understand your concern, and it is true that as Pineal gland diseases are not so common, it takes time to Diagnose.

As a general rule, Doctors first have to think about more common diseases so they have done almost all the test which you mentioned and came back normal.

Now as it is confirmed pineal gland tumour, we can correlate all his symptoms due to Pineal cysts, and its pressure on the surrounding structures of mid brain.

Most of these are benign, and can be removed surgically. You should expect your Neurologist to do complete clinical examination and further treatment regarding to operate or to go with conservative treatment.

He may have to undergo annual MRI scan for follow up.

Also,he should seek advise from Endocrinologist to evaluate the need for some hormonal medicines if required.
