What Causes Severe Tooth Pain Despite Taking Clindamycin For Dry Socket Abscess?

Hi, I am taking Clindamycin (300 mg) for an infection/abcess in a tooth that is cracked and essentially "gaping" [i.e. it's a bad crack]. I am pretty sure it's a dry socket abcess ... Anyway, I've already taken 10 capsules out of the 30 in my prescription and I am taking painkillers in parallel. I am still feeling considerable pain. I am wanting to know how long/how many days it will take into the antibiotic cycle for me to start noticing a difference? TIA!!

Hi.
Welcome to HCM

As per your complain if you have a cracked tooth and you are in.pain due to it then it is not due to Dry Socket as in case of Dry Socket there is unhealed extraction socket that is left after the extraction/removal of tooth and not a condition when tooth is present..
As you have a cracked tooth that is infected then pain occurs due to inflammation and irritation of nerves and the infection can progress and reach below the root tips cause pus formation and formation of a Periapical abscess..
As you are taking antibiotics it will reduce infection but complete relief can be achieved only after treatment of tooth depending on condition of the tooth..
If the tooth has a large vertical crack it is not commonly saved and needs extraction..
In case of it is in condition to be saved ROOT CANAL TREATMENT followed by capping of tooth can relieve..
Get an x ray done by a dentist and get treated accordingly..
As of now continue antibiotics and also take anti-inflammatory painkillers to relieve pain..
Avoid eating from painful side and also take soft diet..

Hope this helps..

Regards..
