Both of my lower legs and my feet have been swollen a lot lately, especially towards the evening. The left leg alot more then the right leg. Today I noticed that part of my lower left legs skin turned a real dark color. I ve always had problems with containing water in my legs and it comes and goes but my leg never turned dark like that. What s going on? Gabriele
Hello Dear. We need to rule out Kidney disease, heart disease and liver disease in you. All the three can cause swelling of legs.
Do you have symptoms like chest pain, shortness of breath while exersion? Do you have any urinary problem? do you consume lot of alcohol?
Blood tests like renal function tests, liver function tests have to be done in your case. Also ECG and ECHO to rule out cardiac cause.
Are you on any anti-hypertensive (for BP) tablets? some anti-hypertensives like Amlodipine can cause swelling of legs on long term use. In that case it has to be changed.
Kindly consult a physician and get detailed evaluation.
Hope i have answered your question. Feel free to contact me if you have any more questions. I ll be glad to help you. All the best With warm regards Dr Sanjay Kini
