What Causes Severe Pain On The Right Side Of The Chest?

I am having aching pain in the area along the right side of my chest, close to the clavicle, above and below. Also feel a lump and swelling in the area above the clavicle. This aching comes and goes and almost feels as if it extends into the right side of my neck. I have had breast cancer in the right breast and had a port for two years. Wondering if this could be scar tissue from the port.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello.

The pain you mention seems to be musculoskeletal. As you mentioned, it may indeed be scar tissue pressing on some nerve or muscle giving rise to pain. However, it can also be due to any lymph node which is inflammed.

I suggest you take a short course of pain killers (provided your kidney functions are good) and hot fomentation of the area. If it does not subside with these measures, more investigation may be needed.

Hope this helps.

Regards,
Dr Geeta
