What Causes Severe Pain In The Upper Back?

Hello,
Starting yesterday, I began to notice a sore pain in my upper back. Since then it has been getting only worse, and is almost to the point of being debilitating. It has also spread from the right side of my back to the top half of my back. I noticed that if I curve my body forwards, it causes a sharp pain, and a weak feeling in my spine. The pain didn't start with an injury or and specific action, instead it started when I was typing my essay in my computer chair. I often sit in this chair for long periods of time without problems. Although I did notice my posture was slightly more hunched than normal. I doubt age, or arthritis could be part of the problem, because I am only 15, and in good health. I go to the gym nearly every day, and do fairly intense work outs, however, the day the pain began, I did not go to the gym, nor did I the preceding day. I went today and did an unusually intense work out, and for about an hour after the work out, the pain had stopped. However it soon came back, full force. I doubt this could have much to do with my condition, but yesterday was the first day I began taking my Adderall prescription. I know this is unhealthy, but also, since I started my prescription at 8 AM yesterday, I've eaten nothing and all I had eaten prior to taking my adderall were a few tortilla chips. I wasn't trying to starve myself, just the aderall makes it extremely difficult to eat. Last night I slept normally, and the night before yesterday I slept normally as well, so I don't think I could of slept on it wrong. I can't seem to find a reason for this, and the pain is only increasing.
Thank you for your help.

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement 's  Response
Hello,
Thanks for your query.

After going through your description the most likely cause seems to be severe muscle spasm of back leading to difficulty in bending movement. My advice for you would be –
1. Take rest preferably in lying down position and avoid prolong sitting and exercise.
2. Hot water fomentation has a soothing effect on stiff muscle.
3. I would like to treat you with Tab.Thiosaps A8 along with local gel like Flexabenz. Since these are prescription drugs you may have to contact your local doctor.
4. For early recovery you may have Physiotherapy in form of short wave diathermy and TENS.
It usually takes 3-5 days time for stiff muscles to relax.

I do hope that you have found something helpful and I will be glad to answer any further query.
Take care
