What Causes Severe Pain In The Thigh Muscles?

Last night I had extremely painful, sharp pains in my right inner thigh! Worse than childbirth. Severe, terrible painful muscle spasms! Help. I am 75 this month, active and have no real health issues. The spasm lasted for at least a minute or more, which was an eternity! I did have an Amish cramp liquid that I purchased and poured and rubbed on the area...It finally subsided, but what caused this? I can t travel or go anywhere if this is going to happen again!! It was awful! Help!!!

Hi and welcome to Healthcaremagic. I understand your concerns and I will try to help you as much as I can.
Causes of your difficulties may be neuropathy or ischemic issues. Neuropathic are seen in diabetics or injury of spine nerves.
If this is not your case then these symptoms are indicating circulatory problems in legs which are common in this age and there may be present atherosclerosis that obstructs blood vessels and causes pain and blisters to form.
You should do Doppler ultrasound of the leg or CT angiography to rule out such obstructive changes and then it can be treated properly by medications or by surgical and radiological procedures. ALso, you should have Aspirine 100mg and have elastic stockings applied, and should avoid cold environment and long walks.
In most cases it can be managed with medications but sometimes surgery may be required in severe cases.
