What Causes Severe Pain In The Shoulder And Arm?

Hi my husband is suffering from an extreme pain in his shoulder extending to arm. This is being going on for over 6 weeks. We have been in A&E. The doctors checked for a heart attack, all was ok. They suggested he is suffering from a trapped nerve. To over come NHS long que, MRI scan of the shoulder and spine was conducted by a private clinic. But we are in no better position. The doctor gave results over the phone indicating he has torn muscles. My husband cannot sleep due to injury. He is in constantly pain, only being managed by pain killer. Please help .

Hi
Thanks for posting on HCM
A torn muscle may be very painful and will need adequate management.I will suggest you see the surgeon for evaluation as a surgical repair may be needed to correct the problem. You may however try the following:
-Take a pain drug like aceclofenac
-A local pain gel like voltarene
-Ice pack placement
If pain too intense, IV pain medications may be recommended.
Hope this will help
Best regards
