What Causes Severe Pain In The Right Eye?

Yesterday, while I was sitting at lunch, a stabbing pain hit my right eye; it felt like a big needle had been thrust into it. It stopped after the initial stab; however it has continued from time to time to feel like little needles hit it; and the front of my head has felt like I have pressure and needles going into it from time to time. We moved to Arizona from southern Illinois in February of this year; I have never had problems with allergies (except cats) but have had some sinus trouble since we ve been here, including sores in both nostrils which took over two weeks to clear up. This eye thing concerns me because I am feeling pressure from time to time in my eyes and in the front of my head. Is this anything serious????

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

It requires complete eye examination by an eye doctor. It appears to be a neurological problem. Can take x-ray PNS to rule out sinusitis, if confirmed then antrum washout should be done.

Apply Nasivion nasal drop. Avoid cat at any cost. Can go for the allergy test.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ashok Kumar Dash
