What Causes Severe Pain In The Neck And Headache?

From the side of my neck I can feel my blood pumping. It usually leads to a shape head ache on the back of my head. The neck starts to hurt for a long time after that. Sometimes the pain can cause me to be light headed or feel like I can t or shouldn t move. What is it?

Hello!

Thank you for your question on HCM!

Your symptoms seem to be related to chronic degeneration on your cervical column.

The sharp pain on the back of the head may be caused by an irritation of the occipital nerve by this condition.

I recommend you to consult with your GP, have a routine blood test for inflammation, and a cervical spine Xray.

For the pain I would recommend you to take indomethacine twice daily for some days. Gabapentine would also be helpful in a long term treatment.

Hope to have been helpful!

Greetings! Dr. Aida
