What Causes Severe Pain In The Lower Abdomen Before Periods?

Hi I always get this horrible pain in my left ovarie before my period. I have had it checked out by a doctor before and had an ultrasound scan and they didn t find anything. Should I still see a specialist? I do take pain killers but they don t always work

Hi, I think you can be having endometriosis. It can be diagnosed on ultrasound if it is present as ovarian cyst, but sometimes endometriosis is present in pouch of Douglas and other regions of pelvis. It can be seen only by laparoscopy. You can take some hormonal treatment like oral contraceptive pill or dienogest for treatment empirically. If pain gets relieved, that means it can be due to endometriosis. Consult a gynecologist for complete examination. Hope it helps.
