What Causes Severe Pain In The Calf And Ankle After An Injury?

My daughter fell downstairs at school (about 3steps from the landing) on 9/15/16. Ankle was very swollen but xray was negative for broken bone. She rested it completely 9/16 and 9/17 by using wheelchair and crutches. Started putting a little weight on it on 9/18 and has been doing alphabet exercise. My concern is that each time she tries to put weight on the injured right ankle, the back of her calf hurts very badly, while the ankle itself doesn t hurt very much at all. She sAys it feels like it s seizing. Should we be concerned that the fibula is cracked or broken?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi welcome to the health care magic

You should visit orthopedic surgeon for examination..

Here ankle x ray in AP and lateral both view, should be done along with x ray leg also..

If fracture not present than ankle sprain or ligament or muscular sprain might be cause

Rest done for that for few days

Ibuprofen given for five days

Avoid strenuous work

Keep leg above heart level for at least one to two hour in day

Ankle elastic compress bandage can be wear while walking to avoid load on ankle

Take care
