hello, I am a 33 year old female. Recently I had an episode of severe pain in the left side of my chest that radiated to my neck and arm. It hurt badly to breath in. I went to my doc yesterday and had an EKG that came back normal. No sign of a heart attack but my d-dimer test came back slightly elevated. They are scheduling me for a c scan. What are the chance that I have a blood clot
Thanks for your question on Healthcare Magic. I can understand your concern. D dimer is very non specific test. High d dimer can not 100%suggests pulmonary embolism (blood clot in lungs). Apart from pulmonary embolism, high d dimer is seen with muscular injury, skeletal injury, infection, inflammation etc. So I don't think you are having pulmonary embolism because you are not having cough, breathlessness. But better to get done CT scan to rule out pulmonary embolism. If CT scan is normal then no need to worry for pulmonary embolism. Possibility of simple musculoskeletal injury and related pain is more. Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.
