What Causes Severe Pain In Ear?

Yesterday i jumped off of a double deck boating dock. When i surfaced, my right ear was in severe pain. The pain went away after about five min, but still hurt when i would lay on that side for a couple of hours afterwards. I slept on a heating pad all night to try and see if maybe the clogged sensation i am still feeling was water and to coax it out. However, i had no such luck. What else could it be?

ENT Specialist 's  Response
Hi, as one dives from a height, he/she goes down deep into the water and then resurfaces. This can leads to a blockage of Eustachian tube which may be for few minutes or may persist longer. the feeling of clogged ear can be also because of that. Please get your ear examined from an ENT and if need be a myringotomy with grommet insertion may be required for this. Regards

ENT Specialist Dr. A.K. Srivastava's  Response
Hello

Welcome in H.C.M.

I have gone through your query regarding severe ear ache, and your medical history suggest that most likely you are suffering from acute otitis media. As you have told that you are observing as your ear is blocked, this indicates that your middle ear is having either fluid or it is due to eustachian tube dysfunction.

To get relief you may take now-

1- Steam inhalation.

2- Tab Paracetamol.

3- Anti histaminic.

4- Antibiotic (preferably broad spectrum).

Probably above will help you otherwise ENT consultation will be necessary.

Regards.
