What Causes Severe Pain And Swelling In Tonsils And Neck?

My right anterior pillar is very sore, red and swollen to cover my tonsil. It s hard and so is my neck all the way on the right. My right ear is mildly painful too. I often get bad tonsilitis, tonsils stones and not that long ago I had strep. I get given the same medication each time. And I m still on the list to have them taken out... It s been 9 years frequently having bad throat infections. I do smoke and I do drink but I m not at all a heavy drinker or smoker. I m only 18! The doctors have just treated me like it s tonsilitis but she seemed unsure and this isn t like any other tonsilitis I ve had before. I can t swollen, open my mouth wide or lift my neck up properly. My mouth seems to be creating a lot of saliva too... Any ideas?

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain it seems that it is a case of severe throat infection and due to inflammation and swelling there is painful mouth opening and discomfort in lifting the neck seems to be due to swollen lymph nodes under the jaw..
Excessive salivation seems to be due to reduced swallowing as you have throat pain and when you have difficulty in swallowing you tend to feel that you have more salivation..
You can start taking a course of antibiotics like Azithromycin or Augmentin for atleast 7 days..
Take anti-inflammatory painkillers like Advil or Aleve..
Do warm saline gargles, steam inhalation and use a humidifier in your room..
You can suck throat lozenges..
Sip on warm water throughout the day..
Chew a Vitamin C pellet daily..
Take a soft diet..
You can gargle with antiseptic mouthwash as it has a drying effect in mouth and will help in relieving from excessive salivation..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
