What Causes Severe Memory Loss After Taking Levipil 500mg?
my wife aged 70 years was prescribed levipil 500 for tension by a physician of apollo hospital chennai and she has been taking one pill a day .
she often forgets things around her.
my family doctor (CGHS DOCTOR ) ADVISED NOT TO TAKE LEVIPILL AND TO CONSULT THE SPECIALIST IN THE APOLLO HOSPITAL WHOM I HAVE BEEN CONSULTING ONCE IN SIX MONTHS AS PER HIS ADVICE.
I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW FROM YOU WHETHER SHE CAN CONTINUE LEVIPIL OR THE PILL CAN BE DISCONTINUED.AND IF DISCONTINUED WILL IT HAVE SIDE EFFECTS. SHE IS HEART PATIENT WITH STENT INSERTED SIX YEARS AGO.

I can understand your concern. Levipill 500 is Levetiracetam and the drug is an anti epileptic drug. The drug is a safe drug and in my opinion is not associated with impairment of memory as side effect. She has started forgetting things and this could be occurring due to age related cognitive decline. Most of humans after 60 years of age show age related cognitive declines in different cognitive domains. This is absolutely normal.
In some initial studies the drug is even found to be useful in memory impairment and in initial animal studies it has been found to reverse the memory impairment. So in my opinion there is no need to worry. Give her drugs as per prescription.
