What Causes Severe Lower Left Abdominal Pain?

Hi, I have had severe sharp abdominal pain (lower left abdomen) for quite a while now. It would come and go often and leaves me in so much pain that I am unable to walk or even sit up straight. These episodes usually last 5-10 minutes and as often as 1-2 times a week. I have also noticed A LOT of mucus in my stool for the past several months (almost 1 year) every time I ve used the washroom. Lately the pain is constant, it feels like a constant pain in my upper middle abdomen as well as my lower left and I get the same random sharp pains in my lower left abdomen as well as my upper middle abdomen now also. And the mucus being passed in my stools have now turned to a pinkish/red color.. Any idea what this could be?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
From history it seems that there might be having chronic amebiasis giving rise pain and passing mucous.
Go for stool test for ova and cyst.
After report go for one course of medicine like Ofloxacilin, tinidazole combination for 5 days.
Meanwhile you can take medicine Meftal spas or Cyclopam for colicky pain.
Take light diet.
Ok and take care.
