What Causes Severe Itching In Genitals Of An Elderly Man?

I am male 80 year old with symptoms the last two days of night gental itching that resembles herpes. Yet My wife and I are monogomous and have never dated outside our marriage. What caused this itching and skin rash around the scrotum and close to the inguinal canal and in the pit of the the thighs?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

The itching may be due to a fungal infection or may be due to dermatitis (allergic or inflammatory reaction of the skin).

Fungal reactions are common in this area because of heat, moisture and friction in the area.

Dermatitis would occur in response to a particular cream, soap or material etc that comes into contact with this area. If there has been no change in any of these products then this is unlikely.

You can consider the use of an anti fungal powder along with a topical steroid cream.
The anti fungal sometimes has to be used for a few weeks.

I hope this helps
