What Causes Severe Headaches?

I have had severe headaches for the last 4 days. they start on the lower left side of my head and travel to the area above and around my left eye. They always come in the evening just as I am getting ready for bed but some mornings I still have it. I take 600 mg ibuprofin to be able to sleep. I used to have migranes when I was younger but have not had any for years now.

Hello!

Thank you for asking on HCM!

I read your question carefully and understand your concern.

Your symptoms may be related tension type headache.

But a secondary headache like temporal artheritis could also explain this clinical scenario.

I recommend consulting with a neurologist for a careful physical examination and some blood lab tests (complete blood count, inflammation tests like fibrinogen, sedimentation rate, PCR, fasting glucose, blood electrolytes, etc).

In case of abnormal inflammation tests (indicative for temporal arteritis or any other inflammatory disorders, further tests may be needed).

Hope to have been helpful!

Best wishes,

Dr. Aida
