What Causes Severe Facial Acne After Taking Accutane?

Hi, I ve been on accutane roche for 1 month now. I started off with just a little bit of acne on my forehead.Nothing severe. Ever since I ve been on accutane (1 40mg & 2 10mg a day) my acne has gotten SO bad. It s on my forehead, chin, cheeks and a little bit on my neck. They re all very green and look like they need to be popped. Every person who see s me says that my face is getting worse by the day....even the nurse that took my blood test. What should I do? My dermatologist is useless. Every time I go to show him what I m going through he tells me it s okay, its part of life ..... Please help..I can t even look at myself in the mirror properly & I hate being in public...

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC.

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern..

As per your complain Accutane contains Retinoid Isotretinoin and flaring up of acne or pimples is a seen side effect of Isotretinoin and even you seems to have flaring up of acne as a side effect of Isotretinoin..
I would suggest you to stop the use of Accutane and start washing your face with Salicylic acid containing facewash..
You should apply gels containing Clindamycin and Niacinamide [Nilac gel and other brand names] and benzoyl peroxide..
Do cool compresses over the face..
You can also apply Azelic acid containing ointments..
Exfoliate your skin once a week using a gentle scrub..
Avoid oily food and limit sun exposure..
You can drink plenty of water and take multivitamin supplements..
In case of no resolution in a month consult a trained dermatologist and get evaluated and he can advise you oral antibiotics like Minocycline, doxycycline, clindamycin etc..
You can also go for microdermabrasion, dermal rollers and chemical peeling..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
