What Causes Severe Eye Infection After Cataract Surgery?

My father,71 is in mental ward after serious breakdown. They can't figure out why because he has no history of mental illness. I was speaking to my Mom and he recently had eye cataract surgery, and his eye has been bothering him for months and has been getting worse and he had discharge and pain, and a light flashed over his eye about two days before his breakdown. He also has rashes on his skin. Now my Mom and I think this can be caused by infection. We forgot to tell the Doctors this factor, because we were so overwhelmed, now he is being moved to another hospital. Could this be the cause of break down and what should we do now
