Hello.

Dysmenorrhea or pain during the menses can either be due to a hormonal imbalance or due to a structural cause like endometriosis, fibroid, etc.

It may also be due to a pelvic infection.

Since you have already experienced child birth, I would rule oout primary Dysmenorrhea - that which is caused by hormonal imbalance.

Conditions like fibroid uterus, endometriosis can be ruled out by imaging like ultrasound abdomen. Treatment of them is either by medicines or surgery.

Since you also have a yellowish discharge, I will go more in favour of a pelvic infection which will need antibiotics. It is better that you receive antibiotics as early as possible as the infection may get worse and spread.

You may also take medications like paracetamol, mefenamic acid, dicyclomine, etc. for temporary relief of the pain (provided you have no kidney condition). Birth control pills also help in regulation of menses as well as Dysmenorrhea. You may take those if you donot have heart disease or a clotting disorder or over 35-40 years of age.

Hope this helps.

Regards,
Dr Geeta
