What Causes Severe Cramping After A Total Hysterectomy?

i had a total hysterectomy including ovaries, tubes and cervix one week ago tomorrow. I have had virtually no pain except for when trying to sit up or move in bed, when I felt discomfort at the incision sites. I have taken only one or two doses of tyelnol, no meds even in hospital. today I have what feels like normal period type cramping, pretty severe. is this normal? no discharge, no fever, incisions look good

Hello,
Thanks for letting us know your health concern. I have gone through your query. Cramps usually are due to recovering tissues. If there is infection, there is usually pain/tenderness, fever and/or swelling. Pain of cramping nature is also due to recovering nerve endings which are severed during the procedure. If there is no relief with rest and/or if there is any increase in the symptoms, please inform your health care provider immediately. Do not strain. Take adequate bed rest. Hope you find this information useful. Wish you good health.
