What Causes Severe Cough While On Losartan And Citalopram?

I am dealing with a terrible cough that s keeping me up all night. I was wondering if I can take Nyquil Cold and Flu to help me control the cough and get a better night sleep. My concern is I take Losartan for high blood pressure and Citalopram for light depression. Could these possibly interact and cause a problem? By the way, I am 67 years old.

Losartan can be associated with a cough in some people, so it is possible that it may be contributing to your cough. It may or may not be the sole cause. You should discuss this with your doctor. You may need to use an alternative medication.

There is a possible interaction between citalopram and the cough suppressant, dextromethorphan, which is found in Nyquil cold and flu. Both of these increase the levels of a chemical called serotonin. Very high levels of this can cause problems in some people.
