Hello,

Welcome to Healthcare Magic.

I have read your question fully and understand your concerns.

Chest pain in your husband’s scenario could be due to neuralgia, it could also be due to costochondritis pain.

Neuralgia is nerve pain; I think one or more intercostal nerves may have become pinched. These intercostal nerves are nerves present in between the ribs and supply the rib muscles. Along the course of the nerve it could have got compressed somewhere. A neurologist would be able to help you here.

Costochondritis is an inflammation of the cartilage joining the rib to the breast bone. It can cause chest pain as well as pain down the arms. A neurologist could help here as well.

Your husband can try some anti-inflammatory pain killers like ibuprofen 200-400 mg three times/day or naproxen 250-500 mg twice a day for 5-7 days (provided he is not allergic to them, and had them before.) Take these tablets with food, as if taken on empty stomach it can lead to gastritis. To prevent gastritis he could take Ranitidine 150 mg twice a day for as long as he takes the ibuprofen.

He may see some improvement with costochondritis pain when he is taking the ibuprofen. A chiropractor may help him too.

I wish him a speedy recovery.

I hope this answer has helped you.

Thank you
