What Causes Seizures In A Child?

My almost five year old grandson started having seizures. No known head injury. After being pumped full of various drugs in a short week, it was decided he should be on three drugs that aren t helping. A wellness clinic recommends a special diet, not ketogenic but a B blood type diet, because most foods cause him inflammation, according to the wellness clinic. They say he has the blood of an 80 year old man. After almost two months of wellness nutrition they report that the drugs are destroying his blood. Any thoughts. He goes three weeks at times and then breaks into high number of gran mals.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi, I had gone through your question and understand your concerns.

Seizures in the paediatric age group are due to
- Febrile seizures
- Genetic causes
- Trauma
- CNS infection
- Idiopathic(for which no cause can be found)

Actually childhood marks the age at which many of the epilepsy syndromes present.

With early intervention , it can be kept in control.

A Type B blood type diet will not prevent or cure the seizures.
He needs the medications regularly .

I would suggest you to take him to a neurologist and a child psychiatrist . They can examine him and correlate clinically.
It would have been great had I examined you him on my own.

Do not worry.

Hope this answers your question. If you have additional questions or follow up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your questions.
