What Causes Secondary Squamous Cell Carcinoma?

My friend had a biopsy of a lump on his neck, very close to the carotid and has been diagnosed with a secondary squamous cell carcinoma. Other than some stomach problems, no other concerns. Where might the primary site be? What tx options should be considered?

Cancer in the lymph nodes generally does not arise form there but comes from somewhere else. Thus, the further course of action would be to look for the primary site. Based on the information you have provided, it is near impossible to predict the primary site. He needs to undergo a PET/CT scan which scans the entire body from the brain downwards upto mid thigh. This will point you in the right direction. He may need some further tests for confirmation. If the PET/CT is normal, then he needs to undergo endoscopies of his food pipe, his nose, voice box and wind pipe.
