Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi - I am a 26 yr old female, active and in good health, but also a smoker (1/2-1 pack a day). The right part of my chest hurts - like an achey, sometimes slightly burning sensation right above my left breast. I've been recently fighting off colds but I'm wondering what may be causing the chest pain. Thanks.
Chest pain can originate from any structure in the chest such as the skin, the muscles and other soft tissues, bones, esophagus, heart and lungs.
If the pain is occurring along with the cold then it is possible that it may be related and may resolve when your viral illness resolves.
Heart related it the most common concern when chest pain is experienced. This tends to be central, tight or heavy, worse with activity, associated with shortness of breath, palpitations. If you are experiencing any of these symptoms then you would need to see your doctor for an assessment.
I hope this helps
