What Causes Redness An Swelling Around Wound Stitches?

I have stitches from getting cut by a shard of glass on my hip. The stitches have became red, swollen, itchy, and are painful to even touch. I ve been using neosporin like I was advised, and have left it uncovered. However no fever or warmness to the touch. Are they healing or is this a sign of infection? I m 30 weeks pregnant, and don t wanna waste a trip to the hospital. (All doctors are closed due to hurricane)
