What Causes Red Swollen Gums Post Extraction Of Front Teeth?

Hello - I had 4 (lower front) teeth extracted for future implants. The teeth were diseased anyway - not from lack of care - my dentist believes from radiation treatments for cancer. The cancer is thankfully gone, but now I have developed two areas of red swollen gums, that after pushing on them excrete pus and blood and small rubbery white pieces of what I think were tooth fragments. I was told pieces of teeth would come to the surface, plus my dentist will surgically remove some. However, I don t see him until Tuesday and yesterday and today I don t feel well - the lower front of my face hurts if touched, I am very tired and actually nod off at times, lack of appetite and yesterday had a SEVERE painful spasm in my hand which seized it and I could not use it at all. This was scary because I was driving. Now this is the same hand that I have RSD in from a wrist fracture. I am under care for this, take oxycontin and gabapentin and go to pain management. I am worried about the lethargy, the cramp, and general unwell-ness I feel, and that it could be sepsis leading from the gums, which are still oozing pus. SORRY FOR WASTING YOUR TIME READING THIS, BUT I JUST GOT TO THE POINT OF HAVING TO PAY FOR AN ANSWER AND CANNOT DO THAT - MY HUSBAND DOES NOT ALLOW ME TO GIVE FINANCIAL INFO OVER THE INTERNET AND ALSO, I AM AT THIS POINT BROKE BECAUSE I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO WORK FOR 4 YEARS. SO SORRY, BECAUSE AN ANSWER FROM A DOCTOR WOULD HAVE RELIEVED MY WORRY OR TOLD ME WHAT TO DO OR IF I SHOULD GO TO THE HOSPITAL. THANK YOU ANYWAY....BEE FROM NEW YORK

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain and explanation of the condition that root pieces will come over the surface which means that you have left over root pieces and the swelling and redness in gums is due to inflammation and the pus discharge clearly indicates that there is infection..
The rubbery white pieces does not seems to be root pieces as the root pieces are not rubbery in consistency and are hard structures..
Tiredness and loss of apetite can be due to anxiety and pain and it is also possible that there is septicemia leading to the symptoms whereas spasms in hand are not related to dental problem..
You should consult an Oral Physician and get evaluated and get x ray of the lower front region done to rule out the exact cause of the infection and pain and get treated accordingly..
As of now you can take anti-inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen for relief..

Hope this information helps..
