What Causes Red Itchy Rashes On The Inner Thighs?

Hi, I was diagnosed with colitis last August. My mother was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis this week. Over the last few months I have been getting terrible itchy thighs. I scratch not hard, and then feel like something is dripping down my thigh. When I then check my leg, I have red spots, and then what looks like a red rash. Within 1 hour I check again it has swollen and dark red with black bruising start. When I ve checked my legs I have a bruise on my left thigh I didn t know about and a few small bruises on my shins. I have no recollection of banging my legs or hurting them in anyway that would cause bruises. My left knee hurts when I walk and has hurt for over a week. Any ideas on what s going on? Thanka

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have red itchy rashes on the inner thighs which seems to be due to bacterial infection of the skin and soft tissue due to compromised immunity of your body and increased susceptibility of getting infected. Need not to worry. I would suggest you to start with oral antibiotic course of Amoxycillin 500 mg in combination with clavulanic acid 125 mg for around 1 week. Apply topical antibacterial ointment neosporin or gentamicin on these rashes twice daily. You should take oral painkiller as well. Visit dermatologist once and get it examined and start treatment after proper prescription.

Hope your concern has been resolved.
