Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My 20 month old has red swollen gums which bleed only around the area where the first molar n canine tooth are erupted. He had fever too. When I went to a paed, he diagnosed it as a throat infection and gave him calpol n augmentin. Its been 3 days but still the gum problem persists. Please assist as to what could it possibly be?
Red swollen gums which bleed around the molar and canine and also having fever can be due to viral infection for which he is already diagnosed with throat infection. It looks like viral throat infection.. The gum inflammation will get relieved once the infection subsides.. You should continue giving him calpol and Augmentin and along with it do cool compresses over the gums.. Use a sterile gauze soaked in saline to clean the gums and teeth.. Feed him with plenty of fluids and bland soft foods.. If the symptoms does not get better in next 4-5 days you should get a throat swab culture and blood test done..
Hope your son gets well soon..
Thanks and regards.
